ABOUT ME

Shamar studied Theater Performance at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  At SIUE, Shamar was Secretary of the Student Theater Organization, as well as a founding member of the Black Theater Workshop.  Shamar also choreographed and performed in OPUS, the student-run Dance Show. Shamar auditioned as was cast  in 3 routines for the Main Stage Dance Show in which she also earned a solo part across the stage in a routine choreographed by Department Head at the time J. Calvin Jarrel.  Shamar's acting credits include The Crucible and The Good Woman of Schetchuwan

 

In 2016, Shamar earned her Master of Fine Arts from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts where she received the Rita Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing 2016 Outstanding Writing for Half- Hour Television award. Shamar wrote and directed a digital short film called, She’s Home, and co-wrote and directed the webisode Honeymoon’s Over.  Her plays Battles and The Virgin, were both winners in the NYU/Tisch Dramatic Writing Ten-Minute Script Festival.  Her new Ten- Minute play, Detained, will appear in the 2017 Fire this Time Festival in New York City.

Shamar's Department nominated her for the honorific role of Banner Bearer at the Tisch School of the Arts commencement ceremoney, Tisch Salutes. Shamar gladsy accepted the nomination and lead her classmates across the stage at graduation and accepted the symbolic diploma on behalf of all graduating in her Department.
